Connecticut’s Senate and House have successfully passed the Medical Marijuana bill!
All that stands in the way of this bill and it coming into law is a signature from Gov. Dan Malloy, which is all but guaranteed.
UConn SSDP did a lot of work, along with CT NORML, A Better Way Foundation, ACLU, and LEAP to help this bill along the way. Congrats to everyone who made this a reality, times are a’changin and we’re at the forefront of the movement.
Continuing a year of unprecedented accomplishments (Helping pass a decriminalization and good samaritan bill in Connecticut, equalizing campus marijuana policies, taking over the UConn student government, attending the 2011 DPA conference, and bringing 13 chapter members across the country to Denver for SSDP 2012), UConn’s chapter was given the Campus Change Award in honor of it’s recent feats. In addition to this award, UConn had two chapter members, Sam Tracy and Jason Ortiz, elected to the SSDP Board of Directors.
The work done up to this point isn’t over just yet as the chapter is continuing to lobby for the medicalization of cannabis to pass this year as well as furthering efforts to diversify the chapter with events like ‘The New Jim Crow: Racism in the Drug War’. Keep any eye out for UConn on this year’s High Times list of top marijuana activist schools, as they should finally (and deservedly) crack the top 5.
